Woburn, MA (Friday, August 22, 2008) – Today marks the final chapter in the Pentacycle odyssey, a 7,000 mile (12,000 km) trek from Olympia, Greece to Beijing, China by fourteen cyclists of various nationalities. Inspired by the Olympic ideals of mind and body cultivation, as well as peaceful competition through sport, the team cycled the ancient silk road between Europe and China in celebration of the 2008 Olympics. Two of the participants, Vasilios Mesitides and Danae Tezapsidis, actively maintained the blog (www.pentacycle.com) with the assistance of Polar design staff during this epic five month journey. They posted their final entry today.
Reflecting its interest in promoting cross-cultural communication and understanding, Polar Design donated Pentacycle’s blog. The free blog site allows visitors to stay up-to-date with the cyclists’ progress. Its user-friendly options include blog links, easy to upload pictures, comment section, and a gallery page to document the unique journey of the cyclists. The blog site also serves as a platform for the cyclists to document their experiences, memories, and challenges they faced during their expedition across Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
The cyclists trekked through nine different countries (Greece, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, China) arriving on August 8th for the opening ceremony of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
